Pictures of sweet treats may help you lose weight
Psychologists explain why looking at pictures of sweet treats may help you lose weight.
A new study has found that looking at pictures of decadent sweet treats may actually help us make healthier food choices.
Dutch psychologists asked 54 female students to look at either a picture of a slice of chocolate cake or a flower under the guise of a memory test.
The study subjects were then asked to choose between a chocolate-chip or an oatmeal cookie. They were also asked to reveal whether they had any plans to eat more healthily.
Interestingly, the women who were shown the picture of the chocolate cake gave a higher priority to healthy eating than those who were shown the flower. They were also significantly more likely to choose the oatmeal cookie due to feelings of guilt.
Researcher Floor Kroese told The New Scientist that food temptations don’t always lead to indulgence.
"It seems that seeing a food temptation reminded people of their goal to watch their weight and helped them act accordingly", Kroese said.
With bikini season just around the corner, it could be time to tear out the pages from your favourite dessert cookbooks and give that fridge door a collage-style makeover!
