INFORMATION: The Phuket Film Festival 2010 is set for June 4 to 13 on the Andaman Sea resort island, and there's a call for entries of features, shorts or documentaries completed 2008 or later.

First held in 2007, this year will be the second edition of the Phuket fest after a hiatus in 2008 and a cancellation last year due to Thailand's political situation. But everything is all better now. Fingers crossed.

INFORMATION: TWO-NIGHT music festival on a popular Phuket beach is likely to rekindle debate about the future of events that disturb shorefront residents.

Between 6pm and 2am on June 25 and June 26, the Phuket Music Festival Full Moon Version is to rock the Karon sands, in much the same way as the highly successful RoyFest in September last year.

Thousands attended the free RoyFest over two nights, and thousands are expected to join this year's Tourism Authority of Thailand-sponsored festival.

Having brought the festival forward to June and dropped the RoyFest title, people who class the festival as ''noise pollution'' will be more concerned to see whether organisers also drop decibel levels.

Some people also question the value of these kinds of events to Phuket tourism. Critics say that music events please a small audience for a short time, but alienate an even larger number of potential travellers. They also question the increasing use of public beaches for private profit, especially one precedent-setting restaurant on Surin beach.

Some events detract from Phuket's image as a destination that protects beaches and reefs from the ravages of overdevelopment, the critics say. Since the novelty of the RoyFest, the debate has spread from Karon along the seafront to Patong and Surin as music events and beach clubs have multiplied up the coast.

Topline DJs will be heard by fans and critics alike at Karon, whether or not they wish to hear them.

Darren’s been preaching his musical gospel around the Asian region for over five years now and he has had the pleasure of regularly spinning his unique blend of eclectic uplifting house music at some of the region’s premier clubs and unique one-off events including Twisted Republic, 808, Q-Bar, The Tunnel, Mystique, and Bacardi pres Dance Anthems in Bangkok.

Darren Mac’s career as a DJ began in London, England at the infamous illegal warehouse parties that were held at the beginning of the rave scene in the late 80’s. This period introduced a new style of electronic dance music which exploded onto the UK scene, and defined the blueprint for the music to which we listen and dance today.

Since that time music’s been in his blood and he has had the pleasure of entertaining some amazing crowds at great venues in the UK, Europe, South Africa and South East Asia 'alongside DJ pioneers like Danny Rampling, Paul Oakenfold, Sasha, Judge Jules, Darren Emerson & Derrick May to name but a few. Events have included the infamous UK dance festival Tribal Gathering that was attended by over 45,000 people. Residencies at the highly acclaimed Hi Spirit, Coolthementa & the award winning Club Jam plus Darren has also played guest spots at some of the biggest dance music promotions, brands like “God’s Kitchen, Miss Moneypenny, Clockwork Orange etc, at various locations across Europe.'

Back in 1996 Darren took what he felt was the next logical step, adding music production to his string of accomplishments by launching the recording studio/production house “VibeDaFunk”. The brand went from strength to strength and Darren, produced & remixed records for many world famous artists including the late Bob Marley, Phil Collins, and legendary dance Music names such as Kym Mazzell & Lil Kim.
